I count the sound of the violin and the piano together as one of the great miracles of this world. These two instruments simply complement each other so beautifully, I am both at a loss to describe and inspired to respond to it. It’s a combination I’ve come back to repeatedly over the years, and this particular work is one in which I allowed myself to revel in the simple sonic possibilities of the combination. The violin plays in and out of the piano resonance. The piano supports, prods, guides, and ultimately accepts all of the sound the violin would pour into it.
