Written for Paul Machlin and the Colby College Chorale, this piece approaches the chorus as a pure sound source. Naturally, most of those sounds are vocal, but “traditional” singing is just one of several approaches taken. While, hopefully, demonstrating fidelity to the various concerns that had been occupying me for several years, this piece also reflects in certain respects the remarkably open and generous musical attitude of its commissioner (Machlin). Simply put, this was exactly the piece I wanted to write, but I would not have felt I could write it for just anyone.
