A piece that surprised me somewhat in the composing. Much more extroverted than most of my music. A rare composition that experiments with off-stage placement of some of the instruments. The title emerged after the composing was complete—in retrospect, it was clear that the “deranged circus music” coming down from the balcony was a secret tribute to the director who had provided some of my most treasured aesthetic experiences.
