An extended work in two attacca movements, the main influences here are Morton Feldman (particularly his For John Cage), and Witold Lutoslawski (specifically his 2nd Symphony). On the one hand, I was impelled by a desire to find a unique way to explore the structural opposition of the Lutoslawski; on the other hand, Feldman’s violin was quite simply “in my ear.” The result is a composition that may never be perfectly at rest, but which, I hope, has some feeling of “fitting together like a puzzle.”
